TaperClip leaders are simply clipped off the spool where marked. An angler removes the first leader by allowing the spool to rotate in his hand as he pulls the leader from the spool. Always leave the elastic retaining band on the spool. After removing approximately nine feet of line, the angler encounters a section of red line. The leader is then cut or clipped from the spool where the red coloration first appears. This is the butt end of the first leader. This same process is followed as subsequent leaders are removed from the spool. The short, red sections between the leaders should be discarded. Tie the leader directly to the fly line, or tie a perfection knot for a loop-to-loop connection. The spool fits comfortably in your pocket.
