Here’s the latest from The Trout Spot

We are pleased to announce that we are teaming up with Ed Lawrence's Fly Fishing to offer our customers a excellent

Montana Fly Fishing Adventure Package.

The Yellowstone – Madison River Montana Fishing Adventure Package

Your opportunity to make a short jaunt to Montana, where you will fish the Yellowstone and Madison rivers, two of

the most productive, beautiful rivers in Big Sky Country. Filled with healthy populations of Rainbows and Browns, it’s not

uncommon to see a 20 inch fish attached to the end of a tippet.

The Plan: Fly into Bozeman, and you’ll be floating these rivers with an experienced guide who knows the territory. This

flyfishing adventure also includes most meals and lodging, and is affordably priced at $1187 and includes three days of

fishing, four night’s lodging, and most meals.

So, now is the time to fulfill your dream of fishing two legitimate Blue Ribbon streams.

The basics

These two streams are teeming with wild (not hatchery – raised) browns and rainbows.

The Yellowstone River’s inhabitants include1,300 trout per mile in some stretches, including browns, ‘Cutts and

rainbows. During summer months, it offers excellent dry fly fishing, and sub-surface fishing is always an option. The major

hatches are Caddis flies in May, Salmon flies in July, and ‘hoppers for the duration of the season. The Yeller stretches

775 miles from Yellowstone National Park to its confluence with the Missouri River. Near Livingston, it flows between the

towering peaks of the Absaroka Mountains and the Gallatin Range, and through valleys of hay fields.

The Madison River just may attract more media attention than any other Montana stream. No surprise there.

‘Bows and Browns are the quarry, numbering between 1500 – 2500 fish per mile of both species. Between Quake Lake

and Ennis, the river is characterized as a “50 – mile riffle” that consistently flows at approximately five m.p.h., its surface

broken by a bed of gravel and small boulders. We’ll fish an assortment of dries and nymphs during summer months.

You don’t need to be a casting wiz or etymological genius to catch fish. You do need to be able place a fly 20 feet

away from a 16 – foot drift boat.

Beyond that, it’s a matter of relying on your guide to help you select flies and find likely holding water.

Why choose Ed Lawrence's fishing outfit? As Ed says, “In one word: competence. We know the territory.

We’re not crotchety old-timers, but we’ve been successfully guiding clients for decades, and we’re proud that a

A Typical Day

Following breakfast cooked at your motel, we’ll spend an hour or so enroute to the fishing hole. That’s a good

time to become better acquainted; we’ll learn about your expectations, your fishing background, and instructional needs.

We will also discuss our plan for the day, and things we’ll do to maximize the experience for you, .

We typically hit dry land around cocktail time, and will have you back home in time for an early dinner.

Evening meals are served at local restaurants.

Things to bring

Gear: five and seven weight rods are go – to equipment, along with floating lines. If you have a sink tip, bring it;

otherwise, we’ll use BB’s when fishing droppers.

In August, lightweight clothing does the trick. BUT: to be safe, bring a windbreaker/rain jacket, a lightweight fleece

pullover, and hat.
